Hi Everyone,

Two Items:

  1. Douglas County Comprehensive Master Plan and
  2. Proposed Initiative 66

  1. Here’s the latest information (COPIED INTO THIS EMAIL BELOW) on meetings to go to for the changes that the County may do to the Douglas County Comprehensive Master Plan (CMP).  The first part is the Public Outreach meetings that are set for now.  You will see a “click here” at the bottom for more CMP plans.  I have already copied that below—the chart.   PLEASE set your calendars for these  meetings.   We CANNOT grow tired and not go to these meetings.  It isn’t always easy but it is OUR community, our property values and its resources we are trying to protect.  Hope to see as many as possible at these meetings.  All of these changes affect so much of our life here in Douglas County.  The growth is ridiculous and dangerous to our water, traffic. schools, etc.  While all meetings are important to protect our way of life here in Franktown and Douglas County, ESPECIALLY SEE, ON March 29th, April 3rd and 5th– these meetings are especially geared to RURAL AREAS.  The March 29th one is at our Franktown firestation.  As necessary, we will have FCC II meetings to work together to get us all on the same page like last time.  Together we are stronger!  We proved that last time. Let’s pack the house and ask that our CMP either stay the same for the rural areas or the protection for our rural area be increased.
  2. On that note, you might be interested in that fact that a new initiative is being proposed for the next vote.  Here’s some quick background from an article in the Post.  98K signatures are needed to put this on the ballot.  (Note:  Thank you to Dick Savage of Franktown for bringing this to my attention.).  This is only for your information  and it’s still under review by the CO Supreme Court.  If you are interested, either way, please see the Post article.

Some language from that article:

” Ballot initiative No. 66, which is awaiting a review from the Colorado Supreme Court, would limit permits for homes and apartments to 1 percent of the existing housing stock in 2019 and 2020 in Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas, El Paso, Jefferson, Larimer and Weld counties.”

[and]

“Builders at Wednesday’s summit said communities need to be looking for ways to make it easier to add lower-cost housing, such as permitting higher density development and reducing impact fees.”

[and]

“Daniel Hayes, who is with the Denver Futures Committee, and Wheat Ridge resident, Julianne Paige, are behind the initiative.”
